L. D’Agostini & Sons, Inc. (“LD&S”) has successfully performed several projects over its history that have included pipe installation using tunneling methods such as jack and bore and microtunneling. LD&S cut its teeth in the microtunneling industry in 2003 in Grosse Ile. This was not a beginner’s project. LD&S faced incredibly adverse ground conditions that included highly compressive strength rock and layers of boulders throughout. The Grosse Ile project included 94 tunnel and recovery shafts ranging from 16 to 24 feet in diameter and approximately 22,000 LF of 24” to 42” sanitary sewer in microtunnel. Despite these unforeseen obstacles, LD&S successfully completed this project in 2006.
